BaseballMidTerm

     This is capsule baseball 2020.  In it, you play as a capsule on the #1 team in the league, the Cappy Capsules.  The inspiration for this game came from a baseball game I pitched where this one kid constantly kept bickering me from the bench.  He had an extremely high pitched voice, was tiny, and just overall didn't belong anywhere near a baseball field, yet he kept talking to me, the starting pitcher, from the bench.  It's honestly surprising his coach didn't tell him to shut up after while, but he never did.  Anyway, he eventually went in as the pinch runner at first base, and I immediately picked him off without even throwing to home once.  It was poetic justice.  Beauty.  a re-affirmation that there might be some good in this world.  He was quiet the rest of the game.  Words can not describe how good it felt.  In this short game, I try to capture that moment with capsules and my limited 3d modeling ability.  In the game, you get to pitch to a batter, and then get into a situation where he goes in to pinch run, and you get to throw the little rascal out.

     As for process, it was honestly painful at times.  I quickly learned that even a simple baseball situation has lots of "ifs."  If you hit the batter, what happens?  If you walk him, what happens?  Strikeout? etc.  This meant that the game quickly blew up with how many states it could have.  I would say the most fun part of development was writing the narrative of it, as I wasn't constrained by unity or anything, I could just write and tell the story.  I also enjoyed getting the baseball throwing to work, and once it did, it felt really rewarding.  Definitely the worst part was dealing with all the situations that could arise.  Like if you walk the first batter, how to deal with him on base once the pinch runner goes in.  It has some bugs, but overall it works pretty well.  I made the decision to make a baseball game and stuck with it, and I am happy with that.  Baseball is one of my favorite things ever, and to create a cute little game about one of my most glorious moments from my playing days was awesome.
